Remember: 1: If you would hit a straight shot to your intended target with a 5 iron for example, but now you are hitting a fade around an obstacle, add a club or two to get the same distance as the 5 iron; A 3 iron with the clubface opened appropriately can give the same loft as a 5 iron which will help you get similar distance to the 5 iron as well. 2: If you were to hit the same shot as a draw instead of a fade, go up to a 6 or 7 iron because when the clubface is closed, it will approximate the loft of a 5 iron giving the same trajectory and distance for the shot.
